“I feel it is the heart, not the eye, that should determine the content of the photograph. What the eye sees is its own. What the heart can perceive is a very different matter .”

 Gordon Parks

THE WOMAN BEHIND THE LENS

Stephanie S. Hodges is a self-taught photographer rooted in Detroit. Shaped by light, shadow, and the quiet language of observation. My love affair with photography began at the age of ten, led not by instruction, but by instinct—by a pull toward whatever asked to be seen.

My images honor the raw poetry of human existence and the unnoticed beauty woven into everyday life. I photograph with reverence, allowing moments to unfold as they are—unpolished, fleeting, alive. Art lives everywhere, shaped by perspective rather than place, and my work is a reflection of how I move through the world: present, curious, and deeply feeling.

Photography is my voice when words fail — a sanctuary where emotion finds form and silence speaks. Each photograph is an offering, a pause in time, an invitation to look closer and feel more deeply.

If my work meets your eyes, softens your heart, lingers in your thoughts, or gently holds your soul, I am eternally grateful you chose to see.
